Perivale movements and worn bushes...

Today I am trying to get a Perivale three train movement up and running, but it has a worn bush on the backplate. I have no equipment or tools for rebushing so I'll have to do this another way. I have another identical Perivale movement with a perfectly good backplate but worn bushes on the front! So I'm going to spend a few hours (but not today) dismantling six trains of prime English clockwork then reassembling one with the good plates, taking care to clean all the black grease out of the pivotholes before carefully flinging it all together again.

Do any of you find that Perivale (otherwise known as British Anvil) movements are particularly bad for worn bushes?

I specialise in repairing antique clocks, all the maker's Haller, Smiths, Perivale (Bentima & Anvil)and especially enjoy working on Perivale movements. The perivale clock Co were fantastic clockmakers and I have repaired their clocks for years. As a horologist/Clockmaker myself there has been very few perivale clock movements which I have had to rebush, I think you have just been unfortunate and have found 2 worn out movements. I just recently restored a perivale clock from 1937 and it was in very poor condition in terms of dirt and old oil however after cleaning and oiling the clock it seemed to have great bushings and pivots. The only think which I had to repair was a broken tooth on the escapement wheel, Luckly that is a common repair so had it sorted in under an hour.
    Hope this helped,
    Kind regards Dylan

  3. Hi does anyone know why a Perivale movement has Sir John Bennett's trademark on it?

  4. Hi
I have a bentima clock with Westminster chimes. I have a problem with the striking which I have traced to the spring on the back of the rack which seems to have broken?
My question is can I purchase and replace it or do I have to re pin to the best of my ability?
Your help would be very much appreciated?
    Cheers
